RICHMOND, Va. -- It was an Old Dominion sweep for the women's tennis team over the weekend as they claimed four victories, all 5-0 wins, at the Virginia Commonwealth 4x1 Invitational held at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. The Lady Monarchs collected wins over conference rivals James Madison and George Mason as well as Georgetown and Longwood. All but three matches were won in straight sets.

Invitational action started with a 5-0 victory over James Madison. At No. 1 singles, No. 93 Charleen Haarhoff gave up just one gave to the Duke's Mary Napier in her 6-0, 6-1 victory. No. 2 singles saw Fernanda Luiz blank Anna Khoor, 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles had Larissa Santos defeated Rebecca Erickson, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Jana Kubickova won needing a tie break in the first set 7-6 (5), but came storming back with a 6-0 second set in her win over Catherine Phillips. The doubles entry of Baraba Costa and Daniela Cohen picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory over James Madison's Lauren Graham and Briana Jain.

Against George Mason, Haarhoff picked up the Lady Monarchs' second blanking of the event with a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Patriot's Maricel Ballester. Luiz picked up a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Alexandria LaCoste at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Santos downed the Patrtiot's Claudia Antezano giving up only one game, 6-0, 6-1. No. 4 singles saw Cohen earn a 6-2, 6-3 win over Meredith Cutchin. In doubles, the Lady Monarchs' Linda Garder and Kubickova defeated George Mason's Nora Hetrick and Jennifer Kramer, 6-0, 6-1.

In the 5-0 win over Longwood, Haarhoff played to a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Elena Triebskorn at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 singles, Luiz earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Laura Simon. Santos gave up only one game during her No. 3 singles match with Ashley Melson, picking up a 6-1, 6-0 win. No. 4 singles had Kubickova blanked Lexi Torrice, 6-0, in the first set and then earn the win with a 6-2 second set. The doubles team of Costa and Cohen defeated Longwood's Romana Bucur and Mason Davis in a come from behind victory, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Old Dominion's 5-0 win over Georgetown saw Haarhoff down Courtney Olsen at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Luiz needed three sets in her No. 2 singles victory in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over the Hoya's Liz Winokur. No. 3 singles had Costa earn a 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory over Adriann Gin. Singles action wrapped up with Garder coming from behind to take a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kelsey Darnell. The doubles team of Santos and Kubickova defeated Georgetown's Stephanie Cohen and Eileen Boyle.

The Lady Monarch women's tennis team returns to action on Thursday, February 8th when they host George Washington at Center Court Racket Club at 1:00 p.m.
