Jan. 19, 2007

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University senior midfielder Jared Kent (Marietta, GA) was the 28th pick in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft Thursday afternoon. The Real Salt Lake soccer team selected Kent after an impressive performance at the combine. The former Monarch is known for pinpoint passing and impressive footwork.

Kent was the team leader in assists two seasons in a row with six both his junior and senior seasons. He started the majority of his senior season while helping lead the Monarchs to a 14-6-2 record in 2006 and a berth in the College Cup's Round of 16. At the combine Kent scored two goals in the final game coming off the bench as he tried to impress the MLS coaches.

Kent joins Edson Elcock as a 2007 selection into the ranks of Major League Soccer. Elcock was selected in the 3rd round of the SuperDraft earlier in the week. While Elcock is headed to Kansas City to play, Kent will join a Salt Lake team that recently traded for the young star forward, Freddy Adu.

Carlos Mendes (ODU 2001) has been playing for the New York/New Jersey Red Bulls of the MLS since 2005.
