Lady Monarchs Capture 40th Straight Win Over The Patriots

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Old Dominion women's basketball team cruised to its sixth straight win with a 69-49 victory over the George Mason Patriots on Thursday night at the Patriot Center as the Lady Monarchs extended its win streak over the Patriots to 40 consecutive contests.

The win improved the Lady Monarchs to 9-7 overall and 5-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. The Patriots meanwhile fall to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in league play suffering their third straight loss.

It was the third time this season the Lady Monarchs have held an opponent to under 20 points at the half as they led 38-17 at the intermission. Old Dominion was just three points shy of scoring their most points in a first half.

Junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the opening-half connecting on five three-pointers. Junior Tay Ransburg (Kansas City, Mo.) also hauled in six of her game-high eight boards in the opening stanza.

In the second half, George Mason managed to outscore Old Dominion, by a point, 32-31, although the Lady Monarchs ended with a 20-point victory. Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) put a bucket in at the 10 minute mark to give Old Dominion its largest lead of the night, 52-26, however George Mason would outscore the Lady Monarchs 19-6 over the next five and a half minutes to close the gap to 13. The Patriots would get no closer the rest of the way.

Jordan was one of three Lady Monarchs reaching double figures. Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) poured in 14, with 10 of those points coming in the second half. Ransburg netted 10 and was just two boards shy of her second straight double-double. Also narrowly missing a double-double was Green who scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Patriots were held to 29.6 from the field, the second lowest field goal percentage by an ODU opponent in 2006-07. The game also marked the fourth time the Lady Monarchs held an opponent to under 50 points in a game this season.

The Lady Monarchs are on the road for one more game this week. Old Dominion travels to Drexel on Sunday, January 21st to close out the season series with the Dragons. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
