Men's Basketball Drops 72-65 Decision At James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - Terrance Carter scored seven of his 20 points during a 16-0 second-half run Wednesday night and James Madison rallied to beat Old Dominion 72-65.

Carter was 8-for-8 from the field and also grabbed 11 rebounds before fouling out with 3:14 left for the Dukes (5-12, 2-5 Colonial Athletic Association). Juwann James added 15 points, Pierre Curtis had 13 and Kyle Swanston 10 for James Madison.

The Monarchs (12-6, 5-2) led 42-34 with 12:23 to play before the Dukes' big run. It lasted nearly 6 1/2 minutes, ending when Drew Williamson hit a 3-pointer with 5:56 left.

That pulled the Monarchs within 50-45, but they got no closer as the Dukes shot better than 63 percent in the second half and made 23 of 29 second-half free throws.

Valdas Vasylius led Old Dominion with 15 points and Williamson and Marsharee Neely each scored 12 for Old Dominion. For Neely, a freshman, it was a career high. The Monarchs were outscored 27-8 at the foul line.

Drew Williamson came up with three more steals to give himself 190 forhis career and move into sole possession of second place on ODU's all-timesteals list. He is one ahead of Mike Byers ('99) and trails only FrankSmith, current assistant coach at Clemson ('88) who has 295.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday when they travel to Richmond, VA.,to take on Virginia Commonwealth at 5:30 p.m.
