NORFOLK, Va. -- Sophomore Charleen Haarhoff (Durban, South Africa) was ranked at No. 93 in the ITA Women's Tennis Poll released on Tuesday.
The second year Lady Monarch is ranked for the first time in her career after posting a 7-6 fall tournament record. During the fall, she captured a 1-2 mark against opponents ranked in the preseason ITA poll, which included herfirst ever victory over a ranked opponent, No. 37 Inga Beermann of Virginia Tech, at the William & Mary Invitational. Additionally, Haarhoff reached the quarterfinals of the William & Mary Invitational, the Round of 16 at the Wilson/ITA East Regional Championship, and the Round of the 32 at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship.
In December, Haarhoff was ranked at No. 23 in singles in the Mideast Regional Rankings and joined teammate junior Fernanda Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) in the doubles poll at No. 7.
The Lady Monarch women's tennis squad will take on five opponents featured in the team poll, including No. 13 Virginia Commonwealth, No. 26 William & Mary, No. 41 UPenn, No. 62 South Alabama, and No. 72 Richmond. The Old Dominion women's tennis team returns to action at the William & Mary Tournament in Williamsburg on January 20 and 21.
