NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarch women's basketball team is receiving votes in the Associated Press Preseason Poll.

Four top 25 opponents in the AP Preseason Poll await the Lady Monarchs this season including No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Duke, No. 12 Rutgers, and No. 15 Kentucky. Virginia and Penn State join Old Dominion in receiving votes.

Coming off a 22-9 overall record and its 15th straight Colonial Athletic Association Title, the Lady Monarchs head into the the 2006-07 season as the CAA favorite with four returning starters including Second Team Preseason All-CAA selections senior forward Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) and junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.).

The Lady Monarchs, who also received votes in the preseason WBCA/ESPN/USA Today Poll, have been in the "receiving votes" category over the last few seasons and are looking to return to the Top 25 in both national polls. Old Dominion's last appearance in the coaches' poll was back November 18th, 2003, while the Lady Monarchs' last ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 was the final poll of the 2002 season as the Lady Monarchs danced their way to the "Elite Eight".

The regular season gets underway when the Lady Monarchs travel to Virginia to open up the Cavaliers new facility on Sunday, November 12th. The Cavaliers where ranked 20th in the Preseason Street & Smith Poll and join ODU in receiving votes in the AP Preseason Poll. ODU's first home game will be No. 15 (AP)/16 (ESPN/USA Today) Kentucky on Homecoming on Saturday, November 18th. The game against the Wildcats tips off at 4:00 p.m. and will be televised by Comcast Mid-Atlantic.
