Defense And Forwards Show Fans What to Expect

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarch women's basketball team is receiving votes in the WBCA/USA Today/ESPN Preseason Poll.

Four top 25 opponents in the WBCA/USA Today/ESPN Preseason Poll await the Lady Monarchs this season including No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Duke, No. 11 Rutgers, and No. 16 Kentucky. Middle Tenneessee joins Old Dominion in receiving votes.

Coming off a 22-9 overall record and its 15th straight Colonial Athletic Association Title, the Lady Monarchs head into the the 2006-07 season as the CAA favorite with four returning starters including Second Team Preseason All-CAA selections senior forward Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) and junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.).

The Lady Monarchs have received votes over the last few seasons and are looking to return to the Top 25 in the WBCA/ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll for the first time since November 18th, 2003. Old Dominion's last appearance in the Associated Press Top 25 was the final poll of the 2002 season as the Lady Monarchs danced their way to the "Elite Eight".

Old Dominion still has two more exhibition games before kicking off the 2006-07 regular season. The Lady Monarchs host Team Concept tonight, Wednesday, November 1st and will welcome M.I. Express on Tuesday, November 7th. The regular season gets underway when the Lady Monarchs travel to Virginia to open up the Cavaliers new facility on Saturday, November 18th. ODU's first home game will be No. 16 Kentucky on Homecoming on Saturday, November 18th.
