RICHMOND, VA--The 24th ranked Soccer Monarchs of Old Dominion (12-4-1/7-3-1) will be the third seed in this year's Colonial Athletic Association championships and will open the tournament up against the sixth seed Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (11-6-1/6-5) Tuesday night at 7 p.m in a quarterfinal match.
In the other quarterfinal match fourth seed George Mason (11-5-1 (7-3-1) will host fifth seed Northeastern (8-9-2/6-4-1) on Tuesday as well. Towson, ranked 17th nationally finished the regular season undefeated in the CAA at 10-0-1, 14-1-2 overall and along with second seed and two-time defending champion Hofstra (10-5-2/7-3-1) will have quarterfinal byes.
UNCW defeated ODU, 3-0 on Oct. 20th in Norfolk. Edson (Elcock Brooklyn, NY.)leads the Monarchs with ten goals and five assists for 25 points. He ranks in the top four of the CAA in goals, assists and points. Jared Kent (Marietta, GA.), who ranks third in the league in assists has six. Goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.) returned to the lineup after missing five matches due to an injury suffered at JMU. He has a 0.89 goals against average.
The winner of the ODU-UNCW match will meet Hofstra on Friday night, Nov. 3at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The GMU-NU winner will meet Towson in the otherSemi-final game. Game times are 5 and 7:30 with the CAA championship set for Sundayat 2:30.
