HANOVER, N.H. -- The fourth seeded team of sophomore Charleen Haarhoff (Durban, South Africa) and junior Fernanda Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) are heading to the Round of 16 in the main draw doubles bracket at the ITA East Regional.
The Lady Monarch duo began tournament action with an 8-2 victory over Rutgers' Anela Djsk and Katrina Elder-Bush in the Round of 64. The Round of 32 saw Haarhoff and Luiz down Michal Amir and Maggie MacKeever of Maryland, 8-3. In the Round of 16, the Lady Monarchs will take on in-state rivals Inja Beermann and JJ Larson of Virginia Tech. The Hokie doubles team in seeded ninth in the bracket.
In other tournament action, senior Larissa Santos (Florianopolis, Brazil) fell one victory shy in the qualfying singles bracket to make it to the main draw. Santos defeated host Dartmouth's Carely Markovitz, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, but went on to fall to Olga Votavova of Syracuse, 6-2, 6-1.
In the main draw, Luiz fell in her only appearance, a Round of 128 loss to host Dartmouth's Winingham, 7-5, 7-5.
Haarhoff begins her run in the singles main draw later today. Haarhoff received a Round of 128 bye and will pick up action in the Round of 64 meeting Katrina Elder-Bush of Rutgers.
