ODU Cagers Kickoff Monarch Reading Program

Members of the Old Dominion University men's and women's basketballSquads participated in the inaugural Monarchs Reading Program at various schoolsaround the Norfolk area last week.

The Monarchs who participated were Vicki Collier (Upper Marlboro, MD.) at Dreamkeepers's Academy; T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, VA.) at Ghent Elementary, Frank Hassell (Chesapeake, VA.) at Campostella Elementary and John Morris (Camp Hill, PA.) at Bayview Elementary.

The program is a partnership between Old Dominion University athletics,Global Spectrum (operator/manager, Ted Constant Convocation Center) and NorfolkPublic Schools.

In partnership with Norfolk Public Schools, 20,000 official bookmarks wereDistributed to students in each elementary school in the Norfolk Public School District.Every child who reads four or more books during the eight-week program willReceive a free ticket to a Monarchs or Lady Monarchs home basketball game, wherethey will be recognized at halftime.
