RICHMOND, VA--Sophomore Trevor Banks (Madison,WI.)scored with less than four minutes remaining in the second overtime period to give the Monarchs a 2-1 CAA victory over Virginia Commonwealth Tuesday night at the Sports Backers Stadium.ODU ranked 13th by College Soccer News and 20th by the NSCAA/adidas improvesto 9-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the CAA.
Senior Jared Kent (Marietta, GA.) put the Monarchs on the board first 16 minutes into the second half on an assist from Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY.). One minute later, VCU ties the match on a 25 yard shot by Thomas Weingartner. The game winner by Banks got the inside post from about six yards out after the feed from Jared Kent.
ODU outshot VCU, 21-12 as freshman keeper Sean Sigrist (Wauwatosa,WI.) in for the injured Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up the win in his first collegiate start. He had three saves on the evening. ODU returns home to host George Mason on Friday night and Towson on Sunday afternoon.
