HARRISONBURG, VA.--Zachary Kinney's (Portland,TX.) goal with six minutes remaining in regulation helped the Monarchs of Old Dominion University (8-2-1/3-1-1) to a 1-1 tie against the Dukes of James Madison (8-2-1/3-1-1) in a CAA contest Sunday afternoon. ODU ranks 11th by COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS, 14th in SOCCER TIMES, 16th in SOCCER AMERICA and 20th in the coaches NSCAA/adidas polls.
After a scoreless first half, JMU scored on Nick Zimmerman's goal from 13yards out. ODU came back to tie the match with six minutes left in regulation asKinney shot from 17 yards out off a rebound from a goal kick. Both teams hadtwo shots each in the sudden death overtime periods, but neither scored. Elcock tookthe final shot of the day with 2:06 left but his attempt was saved by Kevin Trapp.Kinney is now tied with Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY.) for the team lead in goals with seven and is second in points with 14.
JMU outshot ODU, 10-9 as freshman Sean Sigrist (Wauwatosa,WI) had three saves. He replaced starting keeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) who was injured on a collision with JMU's Mark Totten on the endline at the 10:04 mark of the first half. ODU returns to action on Tuesday night when they travel to VCU for a 7 p.m. match at Sports Backers Stadium.
