NORFOLK, VA--Senior Ross Mackenzie's (Richmond, VA.) first half penalty kick lifted the Monarchs of Old Dominion to its fifth straight win, a 1-0 decision overUNC Greensboro at the 31st annual ODU-Stihl Soccer Classic. William and MaryBeat Loyola in the other contest, 2-1 and by virtue of goal differential wins the title.

After the UNCG infraction, MacKenzie hit the upper righthand corner of the netfor the score. ODU outshot the Spartans, 20-8 as freshman goalkeeper Evan Newton(Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up his fourth straight shutout.

In the first game of the day, Doug Ernst scored a goal and then assisted on theGame winner in the Tribes, 2-1 victory. Ernst scored 16:19 into the match on an assistfrom tournament MVP Andrew Hoxie. Loyola came back 11 minutes later to tie as Camilo Correa scored on a cross from Julian Cantillo. About one minute into the second half, Brock Jones got a pass from Doug Ernst to give William and Mary the lead and match.

ODU is now 5-1 on the season and came into the match ranked 13th by COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS and 20th by the coaches NSCAA/adidas polls. The TribeIs now 4-4, UNCG, ranked 29th by COLLEGE SOCCER NEWS is 4-4 and Loyola 0-6-1.Both ODU and William and Mary begin conference play next weekend. ODU hostsDelaware at 7 p.m. on Friday. ODU's only loss this year is to defending national champion Maryland.
