KINGSTON, RI--Freshman Dylan Montambo's (Chesapeake, VA.) goal with4:21 left in the first overtime period gave the Monarchs of Old Dominion (2-1) a 1-0victory over defending Atlantic 10 champion Rhode Island (1-1-1) Sunday afternoon and the Rhode Island Soccer Classic Championship.
Montambo's goal was from 25 yards out into the top left of the net. Gregg Mottinger (Carrolton, TX.) got the assist. Four Monarchs; Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.), Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY.), David Horst (Pine Grove, PA.) and Ross Mackenzie (Richmond, VA.) earned all-tournament honors.
Newton picked up his first collegiate shutout along with five saves on theday. Both teams took 13 shots each. The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Elon for a 4 p.m. contest.
