NORFOLK, VA--Sophomore midfielder Shavon Knight (Waldorf, MD.)scored a school record four goals as the Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs (4-0) remained unbeaten with an 8-0 non conference victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday afternoon. The eight goals are a new single match school record.
Shavon Knight scored the Lady Monarchs first three goals of the match andfour of the five first half goals. CAA Player of the Week Katie Watson (Woodbridge, VA. ) added another two goals, both in the second half. She now has seven goals on the year, while Knight is second with six. Knight also assisted on a goal to give her nine points on the day.
Sophomore goalkeepers Lauren Tupman (Virginia Beach, VA.) and Colby Owen(Virginia Beach, VA.) combined for ODU's third shutout of the season.
The old mark of six goals was set against Mercer (10-22-00) and Canisius (9-12-98). The old individual single game goal record was three by Melanie McGovern againstVCU (10-10-00), Jen Henley vs. Rutgers (10-8-00), Jen Gillespie against JMU (10-30-95) and Laura Beeman vs. Towson (10-29-05).
Tupman, Janna Pearson(Haymarket, VA.), Beth Messier (Swansea, MA.) andHeather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, Va.) each assisted on a goal. ODU outshot theKnights, 26-6. The Lady Monarchs return to action next weekend when they travelto Northern Colorado on Sept. 8 and Wyoming on Sept. 10.
