COMO, Italy - The Lady Monarch women's basketball team wrapped up 10 days in Europe on Wednesday evening picking up a 108-36 victory over SD Neso Lhke Postojna of Slovenia just outside Lake Como in Italy. The game gave the Lady Monarchs a perfect 4-0 record during their trip across the Atlantic.
Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) played in her very last game as a Lady Monarch and led all scorers pouring in 18 points as one of five Lady Monarchs in double figures. Senior Tish Lyons (Newport News, Va.) was the night's second leading scorer with 16, while sophomore Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) netted 12 of her 15 points in the second half of play. Also reaching double digits was junior Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) with 14 and sophomore Jen Nuzzo (Newport News, Va.) with 13 points including nine from three-point land.
Green led the rebounding department hauling in nine boards. Juniors Tay Ransburg (Kansas City, Mo.) and Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) each collected eight.
While the opposition held a slim three-point edge in the opening minutes of play, the first quarter ended with the Lady Monarchs up by 17 points, 29-12. From there the ODU lead just grew. At half-time, ODU enjoyed a 52-22 edge. SD Neso Lhke Postojna was held to seven points in each the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Monarchs were up 79-29 after three quarters of play.
Starters for the third game of the trip included Ransburg, Williams, Lyons, senior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.), and sophomore Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.).
