Arrowood, Gunter and Nichols Join Godin As Draft Selections

NORFOLK, VA-- Senior's Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA., Kevin Gunter (Richland, NJ), and Patrick Nichols (Chesapeake, VA.) were selected inthe Major League Baseball draft late Tuesday and Wednesday.

They join junior righthander Jason Godin who was selected in the fifthround by the Kansas City Royals. Gunter was selected in the 13th roundby Cincinnati, Nichols in the 16th by Washington and Dana Arrowoodin the 38th round by Detroit.

Gunter was 6-5 with a 3.46 earned run average for ODU. He fanned 101batters in 104 innings. He was the CAA Pitcher of the Week three timesand tossed two shutouts along with three complete games. Gunter rankedeighth in the CAA in ERA.He tossed complete game shutouts againstGeorge Mason and VCU. He fanned 11 in the Mason contest.

Senior catcher Patrick Nichols tied for third in homeruns with 18, thesecond most in ODU history. Nichols threw out almost 50 percent of the runners who tried to steal (23-47). Nichols earned second team All-CAAhonors and hit two or more homers three times this year. In ODU's9-8 victory over Towson which went a school record 18 innings, Nicholscaught all 18 innings.

Dana Arrowood tied for second in saves with seven and led ODU in hittingwith a .353 batting average. He also led the Monarchs with 52 runs battedin, tied for the lead with five triples and hit seven homers. Along withseven saves, Arrowood had the best ERA on the sqaud at 3.17 with 60 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. Teams hit only .239 against him. Arrowoodwas a first team All-CAA selection.

Godin compiled an 8-3 overall record with a CAA leading six completegames. He fanned 146 batters in just 115.1 innings. The second teamAll-CAA selection was COLLEGIATE BASEBALL magazine's National Playerof the Week twice after fanning 17 against Navy and setting the schoolrecord of 18 against Northeastern.
