Four Monarchs Earn ABCA All-East Region Honors

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University's Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.), Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, Va.) earned first team honors and Patrick Nichols (Chesapeake, Va.) and Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) were selected to the second team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-East Region team. The five Monarchs (Arrowood, Godin, Nichols, Kevin Gunter, and Jesse Schoendienst) who signed pro contracts are now with their respective minor league teams.

Godin led the CAA in strikeouts with 146 in just 115.1 innings and compiledan 8-3 record with six complete games and two shutouts. Godin fanned 17 battersagainst Navy and a school record 18 against Northeastern. Drafted in fifth roundby Kansas City, he is now pitching for the Idaho Falls Chuckers in the Pioneer League.

Arrowood, selected as a designated hitter ranked second in the CAA with seven saves as he compiled a 6-3 record with a 3.17 earned run average. He fanned 60 batters in 48-plus innings. As a hitter he led ODU with a .353 batting average along with seven homers and a team leading 52 runs batted in. Drafted in the 38th round by Detroit, Dana is now pitching for the Gulf Coast Tigers in the Gulf Coast League.

Patrick Nichols (catcher) tied for third in the CAA with 18 homers this season. HeHit .307 with 47 RBI. Nichols was selected in the 16th round by Washington is nowplaying for the Vermont Lake Monsters in the New York - Penn League.

Outfielder Jimmy Miles, a returning junior ranked second in the CAA with39 stolen bases. He was second on the team with a .328 batting average and led theMonarchs with 19 doubles which tied him for fourth in the CAA.

Kevin Gunter, selected in the 13th round by Cincinnati is now pitchingfor the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League, while shortstop Jesse Schoendienst whosigned with the St. Louis Cardinals is now playing for Johnson City in the AppalachianLeague.
