NORFOLK, VA--Wisconsin All-State goalkeeper Sean Sigrist (Wauwatosa, WI.) and WASHINGTON POST All-Metro midfielder/forward Alex Silver (Montclair, VA.) have signed with Old Dominion University, announced MonarchsHead soccer coach Alan Dawson, a four time CAA Coach of the Year. They joinU.S. under-17 goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) and 2005 Southeastern District MVP Dylan Montambo (Chesapeake, VA.) as incoming freshman for the upcoming 2006 fall season.
Sigrist, a 6-3, 210-pounder earned All-State honors in Wisconsin and is a three-time first team All-Conference selectinion. He is also the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel All-Area selection, for the second straight year. Sean finished his career as Wauwatosa West High school's all-time leader in shutouts with 32. He recorded a 1.00 goals againstaverage despite missing six weeks with a dislocated thumb. He helped lead Wauwatosato a 15-4 record, a ninth ranking in the State of Wisconsin and the third straight Woodland Conference and Regional championship. Sigrist is a member of the PremierU-18 2005 Midwest National League Champions and six-time Wisconsin State CupChampions.
Alex Silver is a 5-7, 160-pound midfield/forward from Forest Park HighSchool in Woodbridge, VA. Silver earned Washington Post All-Met honors as wellas All-Area honors from the Potomac News. He was also All-Cardinal District,All-Northwest Region and an All-Cardinal Academic District selection. His team iscurrently ranked third in the state of Virginia. The defensive standout played fortwo-time Virginia Club Champion Richmond Kickers Premier 88 squad whichwent undefeated in 2004 and 2005.
Earlier ODU signed Evan Newton, one of the nations top goalkeeping prospectsand member of the U.S. U-17 national team. Newton went to Landstown HS as a freshman before moving to Florida where he graduated from Edison Academic Center.Montambo, formerly of Great Bridge High School, is a midfield/defender out of NaplesAmerican High School in Naples, Italy. He was a member of ODP Europe last year andwas the 2005 Southeastern District MVP.
ODU compiled a 15-4-2 record in 2005, reaching the CAA finals for the secondstraight year and advancing to the NCAA College Cup for the fourth straight season.The Soccer Monarchs were a number ten seed in the NCAA tournament, the highest in school history.
