ALEXANDRIA, VA - The Old Dominion Sailors finished in seventh place among the 16 competitors in last weekend's Robert Arrigan Memorial Regatta hosted by Georgetown University. The team accumulated 152 total points after taking ninth place in A division with 88 points, and eighth place in B division with 64 points.
ODU sailing newcomer Michalis Eleftheriou paired with Elyssa Albert in A division to bring home a ninth place finish. While Mark Birkmeier and crew Jenica Ryan competed in B division for the Monarchs to take eighth.
The regatta was composed of 11 races in each division. Courses were gold cups and Windward Leeward twice around with a leeward gate. The wind on Saturday was a shifty, 5-10 mph, west-northwest breeze. Sunday's conditions were not much better as it offered up 2-10 mph breezes out of the northwest. One protest was filed and disallowed at the event.

KING'S POINT, NY - Also this weekend, the Monarch Sailors finished 14th at the Admiral's Cup hosted by USMMA at King's Point. A, B and C division scores combined for a total of 580 points allowing ODU to finish in the top 15.
Sailing in A division for the Monarchs were Charles Higgins, with Jennifer Adams and Ryan Kozoriz taking turns at crew. With 204 points, the A division racers took 17th place. David Tunnicliffe paired with Jaclyn Finney and Bryan Otis to place 16th in B division with 226 points. In C division, Bobby Noonan finished in the top 10 with a 10th place finish totaling 150 points.
Each division completed 17 races of modified trapezoids with separate starts and finishes. The winds were light and northerly early on, but became shifty as they slowly but throughout the races. One protest was heard on the water that was disallowed, two protests were heard on land resulting in disqualifications.

Next weekend the Lady Monarch Sailors will compete in the MAISA Women's Conference Championships at the New York Maritime College. The top five finishers will qualify for the ICSA Women's National Championships. Regular season sailing for the Monarchs will come to a close in Norfolk on April 29th with the American Trophy hosted by Old Dominion.
