NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University junior righthander Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.)has been named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWS forthe second time this year . He was also named CAA Pitcher of the Week. Godin set a new school record with 18 strikeouts against Northeastern Saturday night.
Earlier this season, on Feb. 18 Godin fanned 17 against Navy, tying former ODU standout Justin Verlander '04 (now pitching with the Detroit Tigers). Godin is 8-0 with a 2.96 earned run average. He has 99 strikeouts in 79 innings and has four complete games with two shutouts.
In the latest national polls, ODU slipped to #20 in COLLEGIATE BASEBALL and #21 inBASEBALL AMERICA. The Monarchs are also 19th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers poll, and22nd in the USA TODAY/Coaches poll. Last week, ODU lost at Maryland andtook two of three from Northeastern.
ODU travels crosstown to take on Norfolk State in a 6 p.m. contest at MartyMiller field. The Monarchs return to CAA action this weekend at the University of Delaware.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
3B Pedro Alvarez, Vanderbilt: Alvarez hit 6 homers with 17 RBI over 5 games last week as he hit .500 (9-for-18). He also scored 7 runs, had a slugging percentage of 1.556 and was walked 6 times.
1B/DH Chris Carlson, New Mexico: Carlson belted 6 home runs over 4 games with 14 RBIs as he went 11-for-18 at the plate. Carlson also had a 1.778 slugging percentage on the week.
LHP Mike Ballard, Virginia: Ballard hurled a 9-inning no-hitter in a 5-0 win over Boston College. It is believed to be Virginia's first no-hitter since the 1966 season as he finished with 3 strikeouts, 2 walks and one hit batter over the 31 batters he faced. Ballard retired 17 straight batters in the first 5 2/3 innings before allowing a runner in the sixth.
RHP Jason Godin, Old Dominion: Godin set a new Old Dominion single-game strikeout record when he fanned 18 Northeastern batters in a 3-0 win. The 18 strikeouts broke the old mark of 17 held by Godin and former ODU pitcher Justin Verlander. Godin fanned 17 against Navy on Feb. 18.
