CARY, N.C. - Old Dominion won the doubles point and split the six singles matches to edge UNC Wilmington, 4-3, in Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis Friday at the Cary Tennis Center. The Lady Monarchs, who clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's CAA Women's Tennis Championships, improved to 18-8 overall and 5-3 in the league with the victory. The Lady Seahawks stand 21-5 and 6-1. In the regular season finale for both teams, ODU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before UNCW's Molly Molony and Kristin Mears were victorious in a tiebreaker over ODU's Barbara Costa and Barbara Kerner, 8-7 (4), at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Charleen Haarhoff defeated Molly Molony atnumber two, while, Fernanda Luiz won over Cassie Martin and, Larissa Santos defeated Lauren Isenhour at number five singles for the Lady Monarchs.
Both teams will next compete in the CAA Championships, which run Thursday through Saturday in Newport News, Va.
