NORFOLK, VA-- Jim Jarrett, Old Dominion University athletic director, announced today that Blaine Taylor, the head men's basketball coach has accepted an offer to extend his contract two more years through 2010-11 season. The previous extension was through the 2009 year.
"I am delighted that we will be continuing this great relationship with Blaineand Old Dominion University, " said ODU athletic director Jim Jarrett. "The programis enjoying tremendous growth under Blaine's leadership and I am particularly pleasedwith the type of student athlete he recruits and the quality of his ethics."
Taylor, who just completed his fifth season at ODU led the Monarchs toa 24-10 record and the semi-finals of the National Invitation Tournament. ODUcompiled a 52-16 record the past two seasons. Overall, Taylor 93-58 at ODU and 235-124 in 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach. In 2005, Taylor was the Coach ofthe Year in the CAA and State of Virginia as the Monarchs won a school record 28 games, captured the CAA crown and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
"I am very pleased how things have fallen into place, "said Taylor. "My family and I have such fond feelings for the University, the people and the athletic program. Ibelieve this shows a commitment for continued growth for the program, and validatesthat we are on the right path. This sort of stuff serves all of us as an opportunity to getoptimistic and anxious as we look to the coming season and beyond."
