Monarchs Open CAA Play With Mason This Weekend

NORFOLK, VA-- The Monarchs of Old Dominion (14-3) open play in theColonial Athletic Association this weekend against the Patriots ofGeorge Mason (7-7), beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. in theBud Metheny Baseball Complex.

The Monarchs will throw Kevin Gunter (2-2) on Friday and Jason Godin(3-0) on Saturday. George Mason will counter with Eric Gibbons (2-2)on Friday and Brent Hitz (2-1) on Saturday. The final game of the serieswill be Sunday at 2 p.m.

ODU is led in hitting by Dana Arrowood at .467 followed by JesseSchoendienst at .459 and Jimmy Miles at .434. Miles leads the teamin stolen bases with 11, while junior first baseman Bryan Cipollahas 25 RBI in 17 games. Catcher/designated hitter Patrick Nicholsleads ODU with five homers.

Mason is led in hitting by infielder Brent Weiss at .333, followedby Robby Jacobsen at .322. Jacobsen also leads the Patriots in stolenbases with seven, and RBI with 11. Casey Slattery hs slammed fivehomers for GMU.

Last weekend, George Mason took two of three games from William andMary in Williamsburg.
