ODU Sailing Takes Ninth at Truxtun Umsted Regatta; 11th at SMC Intersectional

ANNAPOLIS, MD - After two days of ideal breezy northwest winds, the Old Dominion Sailing team was able to finish ninth with a 747 points at the 35th annual Truxtun Umsted Regatta, hosted by the United States Naval Academy. Georgetown took first in the event with 538 points.

The regatta was composed of four divisions, A,B,C, and D, of racing with 20 races in each division. Charles Higgins and Jennifer Adams took ninth place in a division with 193 points, B division racing saw David Tunnicliffe and Michael Brown place 11th with 204 points. ODU's Bobby Noonan finished 10th in C division with 204 points, and Michael Collins placed seventh in D division with 146 points.

SAINT MARY'S, MD - Also this weekend, ODU sent the team of Cara DiSanti and Alyssa Ayers to compete in the in A division at the Saint Mary's Women's Intersectional.

The ladies took 11th place in A division with 129 points. Racing B division for Old Dominion was Maureen Castruccio and Elyssa Albert who placed 10th with 129 points. Altogether, the Lady Monarch Sailors finished 11th overall with 285 points.

Each division included 14 gold cup races in perfect northwesterly breezes of 10-22 knots. The Colloege of Charleston finished in first place at the event with 88 points after an impressive first place finish in A division with 29 points.

The Sailing Monarchs are back in action this weekend as they host the Szambecki Team Race at the ODU Sailing Center on Saturday.
