ATLANTA, GA--Senior shortstop Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.) hita two-run homer with one out in the top of the 11th inning to lift Old DominionUniversity ( 20-3/4-0) to a 13-11 CAA victory over Georgia State (9-9/2-2). ODU haswon nine straight and is off to its best start since 1994.
Schoendienst hit his second homerun of the season with Keith Hahn (ValleyStream, NY.) aboard. Senior Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) picked up the win in relief. He pitched two-plus innings allowing no runs, one walk and one strikeout.
ODU led 7-4 after six innings, and 11-9 going into the bottom of the ninth.The Panthers came back as Wesley Wilson singled home Jean Rochon-Salvas tomake it 11-10, then tied the game as Chase Childers singled home Nick McEntyrewith two outs.
Jimmy Miles led ODU with four hits, while pitcher/designated hitter Dana Arrowood knocked in three runs on two hits. The Monarchs slammed three homerson the day. Besides Schoendienst' game winner, catcher Patrick Nichols (Chesapeake, VA.) hit his team leading ninth of the season, a two-out, two run shot with Arrowoodaboard in the seventh. Nichols is second in the CAA in homers to JMU's Kellen Kulbacki. Freshman Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) led off thethird inning with a solo shot. Schoendienst also had three hits on the day.
Georgia State was led by Justin Newman with three hits and two runs batted in,while Wilson and Childers each knocked in two runs with two hits each. The two teamswill play game two of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. The 1994 ODU baseball teamwas 21-2
