Note: Following the match , the ITA overturned the result in favor of Old Dominion University. The committee has ruled that Central Florida did violate ITA lineup rules at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and that since these matches directly affected the outcome, Old Dominion will be awarded the team win for ITA Ranking purposes. The committee came to its decision that the Central Florida lineup was played out of order of ability
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Golden Knights of Central Florida snapped the Old Dominion women's tennis team's three game winning streak as they narrowly edged out the Lady Monarchs, 4-3, at Huntington Park in Newport News on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Monarchs dropped the doubles point although the duo of Fernanda Luiz and Charleen Haarhoff earned a victory at No. 2 doubles. The Old Dominion pair defeated Kyla McNicol and Megan Hunter, 8-3.
Central Florida edged out Old Dominion in singles by winning three of the six slots for the win. Despite the loss, the Lady Monarchs took home wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 singles, all in straight sets.
Haarhoff at No. 2 singles downed Elvira Serrot, 6-2, 6-3. Barbara Costa at No. 3 singles defeated Kenza Bebacha, 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out the victories was Larissa Santos at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kyla McNicol.
Old Dominion returns to the court March 18, as they travel to Philly to take on #41 UPenn.
