Dana Arrowood Slams ODU Past Navy, 9-3

NORFOLK, VA--Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) had three hits on the day, including a first inning grand slam homerun to lead the Monarchs (7-1) to a 9-3 victory over the U.S. Naval Academy (5-2-1) Sunday afternoon. Lefthander Needham Jones (Portsmouth, Va.) and Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) scattered nine hits and fanned nine for the win.

Arrowood's homer came with two outs in the first, and Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.) , Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE), and Tyler Belcher (Bristol, VA.) aboard. In the second inning Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) doubled home Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.). Keenan reached on an error which plated Miles, then Bryan Cipolla(Plainview, NY) singled home Keenan for his 11th RBI of the season.

Needham Jones worked the first five innings allowing two runs, fanningfour. Freshman Anthony Shawler pitched the final four innings, fanning five. Miles,zahm, Cipolla each had two hits on the day.

Mitch Harris and Jared Munde each had two hits for Navy today. Johnstondoubled home Hollins and Harris followed with a single to score Johnston in the third.Navy's final run came in the ninth when Thomas Hamilton singled home Michael Garcia.

The Monarchs return home on Wednesday to host Longwood at 3 p.m., thenRutgers in a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday.
