NORFOLK, VA - Freshman wrestler at 133 pounds, Ryan Williams, was named CAA Rookie of the Week for all competition February 7-13.
Williams, from Cumberland, Pennsylvania, went 2-0 this weekend in CAA competition beating both of his competitors, including one by pin. The fourth ranked 133 in the CAA, Williams defeated the fifth ranked wrestler in the conference from George Mason. He also leads the team in pins with nine and is tied for most wins by decision with 14. Williams has compiled a record of 24-12, with a 6-1 CAA record.
CAA Rankings
ODU stands in fourth place in the CAA with 25 points, and a CAA record of 5-1-1. Eight Monarch wrestlers are ranked in their respective weight classes. Bryan LaShomb at 125, Ryan Williams at 133, and David Mendoza at 184 each took fourth place. BJ Compton at 141, TJ Hansen at 174, and John Dolida at 285 took fifth place. Senior Robby Gosnell took third at 165 pounds, and Adam Wright ranked in the top spot, first place, at 197 pounds with an undefeated CAA record of 7-0.
The Monarchs host VMI this Thursday at the Old Dominion Fieldhouse. Mat time is 7:00pm.
