ODU Sweeps Doubleheader from Iona, 9-1 & 16-2

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion (3-0) pitchers Bryan Hansen (Vass,NC), Hunter Hall (VA.Beach, Va.), Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.) and Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) allowed only three runs in the two games to lead ODU to a doubleheader sweep of the Gaels of Iona, 9-1 and 16-2 Sunday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

In game one, Bryan Hansen and Hunter Hall combined for a five-hitter in a9-1 victory. Hansen walked only two and fanned six. Chris Keenan, Dana Arrowood, Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.), and Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) each had two hits on the day. Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.) knocked in three runs.

In game two, Jason Godin and Dana Arrowood combined on a five hitter forthe Monarch win. Godin had a shutout until the sixth when Wericki and Capowski eachsingled in runs to make it 5-2. Arrowood came on with the bases loaded to get theMonarchs out of the inning. ODU then scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth.

ODU pounded out 16 hits in game two, led by Jimmy Miles (Orlando, Fl.) with four. Dana Arrowood had three hits and three runs batted in. Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) and Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) had two hits each. The Monarchs return to action on Tuesday when they host crosstown rival Norfolk State at 3 p.m.
