ODU Wrestling Battles GMU And Campbell In Fairfax This Weekend

NORFOLK, VA - Old Dominion Wrestling travels to Fairfax, Virginia to the campus of George Mason to take on CAA foes the Patriots and the Camels of Campbell University this Saturday. The Monarchs look to improve their 3-1-1 conference record by defeating Campbell (3-9 overall, 2-3 in the CAA), and George Mason (7-5 overall, 5-3 in the CAA).

Saturday's match against the Patriots will highlight rematches from the Virginia Intercollegiate Tournament. Old Dominion took first at the event for the first time since 1994, George Mason placed fourth. At 125, Bryan LaShomb beat Joe Coughlin by a 9-7 decision. At 133, Ryan Williams scored a 6-4 decision over Will Powars. In the championship bout at 165 pounds, Robby Gosnell beat Tyler Tisdell by a 7-3 decision; Gosnell also beat Ken Jackson in an earlier match at 165 pounds. TJ Hansen beat Randy Oates at 174 pounds by a 12-1 major decision. Finally at 184 pounds, David Mendoza slipped by Matt Moyer 11-10.

The Monarchs are 6-9 all time again the Patriots. GMU enters the dual match this weekend coming off a pair of losses to Franklin and Marshall College (26-18) and Davidson (24-22). Due to injuries, Mason was forced to forfeit the 149 and 157 pound matches in their last competition, costing the team 12 points.

ODU vs. Campbell

Due to Campbell's revamped roster, there are no rematches to report from last year's match up. Campbell and ODU have not met in competition yet this year. The Monarchs are a perfect 9-0 in competition against the Camels beating them last year 49-4.

The Camels recently dropped two matches to the ACC's NC State and Duke. First, NC State won by a 36-15 decision, before Duke picked up their first win of the season by beating Campbell 38-3.
