DAVIDSON, NC--Senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) tallied his second multi-goal effort of the week, and the Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs earned their second shutout in four days, defeating the #20 Davidson Wildcats 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Cvilikas scored twice to move up to 8th place on ODU's all-time goals scored list. John Connelly (Rockville, MD) notched his fourth shutout of the season. ODU upped their record to 5-1-1 on the season, while Davidson dropped to 5-2-1.
The ODU offense struck early in the 9th minute of play when Cvilikas finished a pass from Ross Mackenzie (Midlothian, VA) into the back of the net. Mackenzie would dish out another assist early in the second half when he sent a corner kick to sophomore Yomby William (Bafoussam, Cameroon) who got the ball past the goalie for his first career goal. Cvilikas would get an insurance goal in the 71st minute after collecting an assist from freshman Trevor Banks (Madison, WI). Cvilikas has scored seven goals in the past four matches.
ODU's defense held Davidson to one shot on goal for the day, making that one shot on goal allowed in the past two matches. The Monarchs also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Wildcats.
The Monarchs return to action Friday night as they travel to UNC-Wilmington for their first CAA conference game of the season. ODU will play host to new CAA addition Georgie State Sunday October 2nd at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
