NORFOLK, VA--Sophomore midfielder Adrian Papaluca scored the game-winner with eight seconds left in regulation as Hofstra defeated 7th ranked Old Dominion 1-0 to capture their second straight CAA men's soccer title. Hofstra improved their record to 14-4-3 with the championship win, while the Monarchs fall to 15-3-2 on the year.
Papaluca scored the game-winner at the 89:52 mark after taking a deflected corner kick and sending a high floater to the upper right of the goal that found the net.
For the Monarchs, junior forward Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY) was an active presence on offense, taking four shots on goal including a quality chance in the 86th minute that a Hofstra defender kicked away from the goal line.
Old Dominion out shot the Pride 11-8 and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper John Connelly (Rockville, MD), senior defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) and sophomore defender David Horst (Pine Grove, PA) were selected to the All-Tournament team. Hofstra's Gary Flood was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the tourney.
ODU remains a virtual lock to participate in the NCAA tournament and will find out their postseason destination and opponent Monday between 4-4:30 on ESPNews.
