NEWARK, DE--. Freshman midfielder Trevor Banks (Madison, WI) scored the only goal of the match, and the 3rd ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs extended their consecutive shutout victory streak to five matches as they defeated CAA foe Delaware 1-0. With the win, ODU ran their record to 8-1-1 (3-0) on the year. Delaware dropped to 1-6-3 (0-2-1) on the season.
Banks scored the fourth goal of his career in the 25th minute of play after finishing a cross from the right sent by junior midfielder Ross Mackenzie (Midlothian, VA). Senior goalkeeper John Connelly (Rockville, MD) recorded his fifth straight shutout, stopping three Delaware shots on the night. ODU held a 16-5 advantage in shots taken, and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Monarchs return to action Sunday afternoon as they take on Drexel in a regionally televised contest. WSKY (Cox Channel 4) will carry the broadcast live at 12:00 p.m., as will Comcast channel CN8.
