NORFOLK, Va. -- It was the Blue Team edging out the White Team by two, 65-63, in the annual Old Dominion women's basketball Blue-White Game on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Junior Tish Lyons (Newport News, Va.), who saw action with both squads, led all her teammates with 24 points.
Senior Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) nearly captured a double-double as a member of the Blue Squad with 11 points and nine rebounds. Davis, a First Team All-CAA Preseason pick and a member of the CAA All-Defensive Team a year ago, also added four assists and two steals in playing 30 minutes.
Sophomore T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) added in 22 points, including 15 with her Blue Squad teammates. Jordan, the Lady Monarch's three-point specialist, went 6-for-10 from three-point land combined.
Junior Paula Muxiri (Luanda, Angola) notched eight points, three rebounds and three assists in her first appearance in over a year with the Lady Monarchs. Muxiri returns to the Lady Monarch line-up after missing the 2004-05 season with an ACL injury.
Also scoring in double figures were sophomores Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) and Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.). Pym registered 11 points to go along with 11 steals playing the entire time with the Blue Team. She also swatted away a Blue-White game-high three shots. Her teammate, 2005 CAA All-Rookie Team member and Second Team All-CAA Preseason selection, Green, poured in 12 points shooting 5-of-6 from the field along with two free throws.
Sophomore Jen Nuzzo (Newport News, Va.) and freshman Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.) starred at point for each team. Nuzzo combined had four points and eight assists, while newcomer Walters made her debut with eight points and six assists.
Sophomore Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) played 30 minutes for the Blue Team and collected eight points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Junior Shantel Wilson (Washington, D.C.) scored all her points with the White squad. Wilson put up six points, three boards, and a steal.
Juniors Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) and Angela Brown (Albany, Ky.) played the entire time with the White Team. Triggs went a perfect 4-for-4 from the line and concluded the afternoon with six points and eight boards and added two blocks to the mix. Brown shot 3-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to score eight points to go along with two blocks and two boards.
The Blue-White Scrimmage marked the first of three exhibition contests for the Lady Monarchs. Next up on the ODU schedule is Athletes in Action on Monday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1310 AM in the Hampton Roads area as well as cybercasted on www.odusports.com.
