NORFOLK, VA--The 8th ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs attempt to increase their three point lead in the conference standings this weekend as they hit the road to take on George Mason and Towson in crucial CAA matchups. The Monarchs take on George Mason Friday night at 7:00 p.m., and face Towson on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
After losing a 2-1 overtime contest to James Madison that snapped their 32-game regular season home unbeaten streak, ODU is sitting at 11-2-2(6-1-1) for the season, which is good enough for a one game lead in the CAA standings. George Mason holds a 6-5-4 (2-2-4) mark, and is tied for 7th in the CAA, while Towson is 9-4-2 (3-3-2) and tied for 4th in the conference. The Monarchs are 11-14-1 all-time against the Patriots, and hold a 6-3-1 career advantage over Towson. ODU is currently ranked 8th by the NSCAA/adidas coaches poll, T-9th by Soccer Times, and 10th by Soccer America.
Freshman midfielder Trevor Banks (Madison, WI) had a strong outing last weekend, tallying a goal and assist in a shutout victory over VCU, and now ranks second on the team in goals (6) and points (14). Senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored his 11th goal of the season against VCU and now leads the CAA in that category. He also ranks 1st in shots, shots per game, and goals per game. Junior forward Ross Mackenzie (Midlothian, VA) is tied for first in the CAA in assists (6) and assists per game (0.40).
The Monarchs final regular season matchup is a road contest against William & Mary on Friday November 4th at 7:00 p.m.
