NORFOLK, VA--. In front of a large crowd of 1,362 fans, freshman midfielder Trevor Banks (Madison, WI) scored a goal and assist to lead the 2nd ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs to a 2-0 blanking of VCU. Senior goalie John Connelly (Rockville, MD) stopped four shots and picked up his CAA-leading ninth shutout of the year. ODU ran its unbeaten streak to nine matches with the win, with the streak including eight shutouts and only one goal surrendered. The Monarchs are now 11-1-2 (6-0-1) while VCU falls to 5-8-1 (3-2-1).

Junior forward Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY) got the Monarchs on the board in the 18th minute of action after taking a feed from Banks, and darting past the last line of VCU defense to blast a shot to the lower left of the goal. Banks would give the Monarchs an insurance goal in the 47th minute of play after avoiding heavy traffic and firing a 25 yard shot to the near post and past the goalkeeper. The freshman now has six goals and 14 points scored on the year to rank second on the team.

ODU outshot the Rams 14-11, and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Old Dominion extended their home regular season unbeaten streak to 32 matches with the victory. A season-high crowd of 816 students were in attendance to witness the ODU win.

The Monarchs return to action Sunday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. as they host conference rival James Madison in a CAA contest. ODU will honor their seniors for Senior Day prior to the match.
