COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The eighth-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team scored an upset Friday night in College Park, Maryland as the Lady Monarchs downed #2 Maryland, 4-1. The win gives the Lady Monarchs (11-4) their eighth straight victory, while the Terps (14-2) suffer only their second loss of the 2005 season.

The Lady Monarchs struck early and never looked back en route to taking a 4-0 lead at the half. Senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) put Old Dominion onto the board right away scoring on a penalty corner a mere 1:05 into the contest.

Sophomore Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) would tally what would turn out to be the game-winner at the 25th minute as she deflected Engle's shot off another Lady Monarch penalty corner attempt.

Old Dominion continued to attack the Terp net in the closing minutes as CAA Rookie of the Week Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) netted back-to-back goals giving the Lady Monarchs the 4-0 edge at the half.

During the first half, the Old Dominion outshot Maryland 11-4. However in the second half, it was the Terps doing the attacking. Although Maryland managed to fire off 14 shots, as compared to ODU's 2, Lady Monarch netminder Mary Cate Gordon (Oreland, Pa.) came up with five of her nine saves on the night.

Maryland's lone goal game five minutes into the second half on an unassisted tally by Tiffany Marsh.

The Lady Monarchs look to keep the streak alive on Sunday when they host #3 Duke. Game time is at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission is free.
