NORFOLK, VA--Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored two goals Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium to propel the #18 Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs to a 3-0 victory over Virginia in front of 1,645 fans. With the win, ODU upped their record to 4-1-1 on the year. Virginia dropped to 4-1-1 on the season. The Monarchs extended their home regular season unbeaten streak to 28 matches, and finished their slate of contests against ACC opponents with a 2-1-1 mark. Cvilikas has now scored 5 goals in the past three matches.

Cvilikas scored his first goal in the 25th minute when David Horst (Pine Grove, PA) sent a free kick to the top of the box, and Cvilikas head flicked it over the keeper and into the net. Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY) would score his first goal of the year in the 57th minute after putting away a cross from 35 yards out sent by Ado Fazlic (Richmond, VA). Goalkeeper John Connelly (Rockville, MD) did not record a save in the shutout, but he did assist Cvilikas' second goal in the 87th minute after punting the ball to a wide open Cvilikas who finished inside of the box.

ODU outshot the Cavaliers 12-7 on the night, while Virginia held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Despite playing with a cast that protected a fractured hand, Yomby William (Bafoussam, Cameroon) made several key defensive stops to help preserve the Monarch shutout. The beginning of the match was delayed for 20 minutes due to a power failure caused by an automobile accident in the area. The 3-0 victory is the third time in program history that ODU has defeated a Virginia squad ranked in the Top 5. In 1985, ODU defeated #2 Virginia in Charlottesville 1-0. During Alan Dawson's first year as head coach in 1997, the Monarchs took down #3 Virginia 1-0 in the final home match of the season.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Davidson for a 2:00 p.m. tilt. ODU's next home match will take place Sunday October 2nd as they take on new CAA addition Georgia State at 1:00 p.m.
