CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team outshot and outcornered the third ranked team in the nation, but it was the North Carolina Tar Heels who managed to get past the Lady Monarchs, 1-0, at Francis E. Henry Stadium on Saturday in Chapel Hill.

The Lady Monarchs outshot their opponent, 11-5, and outcornered the Tar Heels, 10-2, but Carolina's Britt van Beek tallied the lone goal of the game with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

Six different Lady Monarchs registered shots led by senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) with five.

In net, Mary Cate Gordon (Oreland, Pa.) made one save, while her counterpart, Katy Tran, posted three.

The victory kept North Carolina undefeated as they improved to 7-0, while Old Dominion fell to 3-4.

The Old Dominion field hockey team will return to action against their sixth top 10 opponent of the season in Duke. Game time is at 1:30 p.m.
