NORFOLK, VA--The 19th ranked Old Dominion University Soccer Monarchs will play host to the undefeated Elon Phoenix Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Monarchs, fresh off an impressive showing at the Stihl Classic where they did not allow a goal the entire tournament, look to extend their regular season home unbeaten streak to 27 games.
ODU is 2-0-1 on the season after victories against N.C. State and Rhode Island, and a tie with #12 Clemson. The Monarchs are 2-0 lifetime against Elon, last defeating them 3-0 in 1999. Yomby William (Bafoussam, Cameroon) garnered CAA Co-Rookie of the Week honors after he was part of a defense that held Clemson and Rhode Island to zero goals. Freshman Trevor Banks (Madison, WI) is currently Old Dominion's scoring leader with four points overall. ODU is ranked #19th by College Soccer News, 22nd by the NSCAA coaches poll, and 25th by Soccer America.
Elon comes into this game with a 4-0 record and have scored 12 goals in that span. The Phoenix are led by Freshman Kiki Willis who leads the team in goals (5) and points scored (10). Head Coach Darren Powell is in his first season with Elon after serving for four years as an assistant coach at UNC-Greensboro.
ODU will travel to Chapel Hill to face #2 North Carolina Sunday at 2:00 p.m. #4 Virginia makes their first appearance in Norfolk since 1997 to take on ODU the following Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, please call (757) 683-5484.
