UNCW Defeats ODU, 12-2 in Season Finale

NORFOLK, VA.--UNC Wilmington (39-17/21-3) had four players with two or more runs batted in as they defeated the Monarchs of Old Dominion (22-33/5-19), 12-2 Saturday afternoon in the final regular season game of the season. The victory gives UNCW a 21-3 conference mark breaking George Mason's 20 conference wins of a year ago.Justin Gregula knocked in both Monarch runs with a double in the first which plated Keith Hahn. He then singled home Hahn again in the third which put ODU up,2-1. Hahn and Gregula led ODU with two hits each.Mark Carver's two-run single in the fourth put the Seahawks up for good. Carverthen scored on a throwing error, followed by a run scoring double by Chris Hatcher tomake it 5-2.Tim Preston and John Raynor each had three hits on the day for UNCW, while Chris Hatcher, Matt Poulk had two hits each. Hatcher, Tim Preston, John Raynor andMark Carver each knocked in two runs. Poulk's RBI single in the seventh gives him aCAA leading 69, two ahead of ODU's Bryan Cippolla who finished the season leadingODU with a .332 batting average along with 19 doubles.Jeff Moore picked up his sixth win of the season for the Seahawks, scatteringseven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Allen Flood pitched the final three inningsallowing only one hit with four strikeouts.Today was the final game for seniors Evan Chipman, Ronnie Stahl andJames Burok. UNCW will be the number one seed at the CAA Tournament whichBegins Wednesday in Wilmington. They will play sixth seed Hofstra.
