NORFOLK, VA.--The CAA leading Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (38-17/20-3) defeated The Monarchs of Old Dominion (22-32/5-18), 8-6 Friday evening in a Colonial Athletic Association game. Matt Poulk led UNCW with three hits, and Steven Harris knocked in three runs for ODU.

UNCW took a 4-0 lead as Daniel Hargrave reached on a fielder's choice which plated John Raynor with the bases loaded in the second inning. In the three-run fourth,John Raynor, Matt Poulk, Daniel Hargrave hit back-to-back doubles and Lee McLean'ssacrifice fly brought in Hargrave. Poulk now leads the CAA with 68 RBI, one aheadof ODU's Cipolla.

ODU came right back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by athree-run homer by Steven Harris which scored Bryan Cipolla and Justin Gregula.Evan Chipman scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Belcher, and Patrick Nichols' groundout scored Keith Hahn. ODU scored in the seventh as Chipman doubled home Chris Keenan.

UNCW's Tim Preston's double scored Jason Appel to tie the game in the fifth. In the sixth inning Michael Marbry doubled home McLean to give UNCW the lead for good at 6-5. Appel later singled in Marbry to make it 7-5. The Seahawks final run came in the eighth as Kenny Smith scored on a wild pitch.

Zach Kimball won his sixth game of the year with relief help from Zach Booker.The two combined for nine strikeouts with no walks. ODU's Kyle Dubois tied a career high with nine strikeouts and walked only one in taking the loss. The third and final game of the series will be Saturday at 5 p.m.Monarch seniors Evan Chipman, Ronnie Stahl and James Burok will behonored during pre-game.
