NORFOLK, VA--The CAA leading Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (37-17/19-3) pounded out A season high 24 hits led by Tim Preston with five in a 16-8 victory over Old Dominion (22-31/5-17) Thursday night.
UNCW's Ronald Hill pitched seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts forhis tenth win of the season. He is the first Seahawk to win ten or more games in a seasontwice. Hill is also 7-0 in CAA league games.
Tim Preston had five hits, scored three times and knocked in three runs forUNCW, while Jason Appel added four hits and three runs batted in. Eight UNCWplayers had two or more hits on the night. Matt Poulk knocked in three runs for UNCWto tie ODU's Bryan Cipolla for the CAA RBI lead with 67.
ODU was led by freshman infielder Chris Keenan (Great Bridge HS) with twohits and three runs knocked in. Bryan Cipolla had three hits and scored twice for ODU,while Patrick Nichols also knocked in two runs.
Senior Ronnie Stahl got his first career triple in the ninthinning and later scored for ODU.
The two teams will play again Friday night at the Bud Metheny Complex at7 p.m.
