Monarch And Lady Monarch Doubles Squads Honored By CAA

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's tennis teams earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Doubles Teams of the Week it was annouced by the conference office on Wednesday. The Old Dominion duo of freshmen Juliano Cirimbelli (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) and Eidy Igarashi (Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil) were named the CAA men's doubles team of the week, while the ODU pair of junior Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) and sophomore Fernada Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) were selected as the CAA women's double team of the week.

Cirimbelli and Igarashi posted three victories last weekend to help lead ODU to the "Elite 8" Collegiate Invitational title. The duo defeated Longwood's Mani Barajas-Alexander/Tobias Guennel 8-5 at number two doubles, beat UNC Wilmington's Rahul Rajkhewa/Taylor Vaughn 8-4 and topped Howard's Othman Garma/Neilabh Avasthi 8-6. The Monarchs' freshmen duo is 4-1 this season.

Endlich and Luiz won all three of their doubles matches at the "Elite 8" Collegiate Invitational over the weekend. The Lady Monarchs' number one doubles team blanked Morgan State's top duo 8-0 in the first round, defeated UNC Wilmington's Lindsey Hess/Sallie Kiser 9-8 in the semifinals and posted an 8-4 triumph over St. John's Hande Gorur/Allison Davidson in the championship match. Endlich and Luiz are 13-9 overall this season and 10-7 in dual meets.

The Men's Tennis team returns to action on Sunday against #35 Virginia Commonwealth in a rematch of the 2004 CAA title game, while the women's team travels to N.C. State on Friday.
