Mason Defeats ODU in Tenth, 7-6

NORFOLK, VA--Pinchhitter Matt Barrett's single plated Chris Fournier in the top of the tenth inning to lift the Patriots of George Mason (13-6/4-1) to a 7-6 CAA victory over Old Dominion (15-14/0-1) Friday evening.

Old Dominion scored three runs in the second and fifth innings. Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.), Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY), and Chris Keenan(Chesapeake, VA.) each knocked in a run in the second. In the fifth inning Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.), the CAA Player of the Week double home two runs and Patrick Nichols'(Chesapeake, VA.) sacrifice fly scored another to give ODU a 6-3 lead.

Mason tied the game in the seventh as Robby Jacobsen singled home MattCooksey, then Chris Fournier doubled home Jacobsen. In the tenth Fournier led off witha single and advanced to second on a groundout by Casey Slattery. Barrett then singledthrough the leftside to give the Patriots the lead.

In the bottom of the tenth, Jason Mills walked Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.), who then stole second with one out. Mills then retired the next two Monarchs to pick up his second save of the Year.

Matt Coksey, Chris Looze, and Chris Fournier each had two hits for George Mason. ODU was led by Chris Keenan, Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) and Keith Hahn with two hits each.

ODU starter Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) and relievers Needham Jones (Portsmouth, VA.) and James Burok (Archbald, PA.) fanned a total of 11 batters. The two teams will play game two of the series Saturday at 5 p.m.
