NORFOLK, VA--Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to break a two-all tie, and junior pitcher Kyle Dubois (Chesapeake, VA.) fanned five batters in two-plus innings of relief as the Monarchs of Old Dominion (15-13) defeated Clemson (9-9), 3-2 Wednesday night.
ODU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Tyler Belcher (Bristol, VA.) singled home Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) and Chris Keenan. The Tigers tied the game in the third when Herman Demmink doubled and came home on Tyler Colvin's homerun with two outs.
In the fifth inning, Cipolla, the CAA Player of the Week reached on an error.Tyler Belcher singled, then Cipolla scored from third on Jeff Hahn's wild pitch .
Clemson threatened in the seventh with two outs. Taylor Harbin and Tyler Colvindrew walks. Dubois came in and fanned Kris Harvey to get out of the inning. In the eighth inning Dubois fanned the side looking and in the ninth he again retired the side inorder for his first save of the year. Hunter Hall (Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up the win,his third of the season.
Chris Keenan, and Tyler Belcher each had two hits for ODU, while TravisStorrer had two of Clemson's seven hits. Clemson travels to Maryland for a three-gameACC series beginning Friday. ODU hosts George Mason in a three-game CAA seriesbeginning Friday night at 7 p.m. Mason along with UNC Wilmington represented theCAA in last year's NCAA tournament.
