Monarchs Defeat Longwood With 17 Hit Attack

FARMVILLE, VA--The Old Dominion University Monarchs (12-6) poundedout 17 hits led by Matt Hudgins (Va. Beach, Va.) with four and Tyler Belcher (Bristol, Va.) with three to defeat the Longwood University Lancers, 9-2. Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) knocked in four runs for ODU.

With the bases loaded in the third, Cipolla doubled home Chipman, Hahn andHudgins to help give ODU a 4-1 lead. Cipolla also doubled home Chipman in theEighth inning.

Matt Hudgins had four hits in five atbats, scored twice and knocked in two runs.He hit his first homer of the season in the fourth, and double home Justin Gregula inthe seventh. Tyler Belcher also knocked in two runs.

Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.), Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.), Bryan Cipolla, and Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.) each had two hits on the day.

Three Monarch pitchers scattered seven hits and allowed only two runs. BryanHansen (Voss, NC.) picked up his second win of the year. Longwood was led by Chris Balus with two hits and an RBI. Nick von Gershoff also had two hits for the Lancers.

ODU returns to action on Saturday when they host Fordham for a 2:30 p.m. game.
