NORFOLK, VA-- Rich Canuso, Colin Gaynor and Johnny Defendis each had two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Scarlet Knights (5-1) of Rutgers to an 11-2 victory over Old Dominion (9-6) Friday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. The loss ended ODU's four-game winning streak.

ODU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) singled home Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.). The Monarchs scored a run in the second inning as Keith Hahn singled home Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.), to tiethe game. Schoendienst led ODU with two hits on the day.

Gaynor doubled home Jeff Grose, and Todd Frazier in the third inning. CanusoSlammed a two-run homer in the fifth inning with Gaynor aboard. Defendis singled home Canuso in the second, then doubled him home in the third inning. Todd Frazier, Ryan Hill and Jason Grover also knocked in one run each.

Rutgers starter Aaron Kalb picked up his second win of the year, scattering six hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Sean Spicer pitched the last three innings andPicked up his second save of the year. The same two teams will play game two at 1 p.m.
