NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion (9-5) defeated the Spartans of Norfolk StateWednesday afternoon, 10-7 as freshman Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, Va.), Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) led the Monarchs 14-hit attack. Keenan had four hits and Cipolla three on the day.
With the score tied at seven, the Monarchs pushed across three unearned runs onRBI hits by Cipolla and Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.). NSU led, 7-6 going into the bottom of the sixth when Keenan doubled, then scored on Cipolla's single to tie the score.
In the first inning Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) tripled, and was doubled home by Keenan. In the second inning, Gregula scored on a wild pitch. Later Eric Mesa (Miami, FL.) scored on Chipman's second straight triple. In the third inning Steven Harris (Virginia Beach, Va.)singled home Belcher, then scored on Gregula's homerunto left. Chipman becomes the eighth player in ODU history to get two triples in a game.
NSU (0-12) was led by shortstop Charles LeLane with four hits and three runs batted in. LeLane singled home Jose Torres in the third, then singled in two of the Spartans five runs in the fifth. He also scored a run in the second inning.
Hunter Hall (Va. Beach, VA.) came in and pitched the last three innings for the win. He allowed one hit and fanned four to improve his record to 2-0. The Monarchs return to action on Friday with a three-game series against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.
